Mission Accomplished Defensive Help!

In the 2nd round the Cowboys selected Chido Awuzie, CB out of Colorado. Have to like his speed at 4.43 and a hair under 6′. He’s got the speed and quickness you have to like on the outside. Has a knack for 3rd down stops. Has a few limitations in his size and length, but has the skill to anticipate and read the play quickly. Traits that are priceless!

In the 3rd round Dallas takes Jourdan Lewis, CB out of Michigan. A little more undersized CB, but he’s got the quickness and very good closing speed. He has a domestic violence charge against him in March. Have to figure that the team heavily investigated the allegations by his girlfriend of three years before spending this pick in the 3rd round. Don’t forget that Coach Greg Jackson, our secondary coach was with this young man at Michigan and his input had to play a significant role in Dallas rolling the dice on him. That’s a very encouraging point in assessing the situation with the domestic violence allegations.

Well that gives us the two cornerbacks that I’ve been pounding the table for. The secondary is being rebuilt. There will be growing pains but we can hope going forward that we’re selecting guys that fit the scheme better than in how we stocked the secondary in the past.

Clearly, the Cowboys have to be thrilled with their haul in the first three rounds. Going into the draft, virtually everyone was clamoring for corners & defensive ends. Two nights in, three rounds in the books and that’s exactly what they got. Mission Accomplished!
